勞凱利（R. Kelly）1992年和公共宣告合唱團（Public Announcement）聯手出輯、締造五首節奏藍調單曲榜Top 15，其中兩首還是冠軍，不過到了1994年才真正大開知名度、奠定歌壇地位。個人首張大碟《12齣戲》（12 Play）1993年11月發行後，緩緩待至隔年2月力挫喬戴西合唱團（Jodeci）、摘下節奏藍調專輯榜冠軍，且一連稱霸九周，終究躋身流行榜亞軍。雖然之前即曾替團體The Winans及Hi-Five譜曲，但創作才華在1994年更上一層樓，其作品散見各處，包含當年出道的幾名新人——男團N-Phase、千面女郎二重唱（Changing Faces）和彼此關係最為人議論的女弟子艾莉亞（Aaliyah）。
1994年除了艾莉亞外，初露頭角的白蘭蒂（Brandy）、自由鳥蜜雪兒（Me'Shell Ndegéocello）現今仍活動不輟、質量兼具，也莫忘首支主打便衝上節奏藍調單曲榜第一的正宗靈魂兄弟合唱團（Soul for Real）、發跡於客串同門四人組Subway歌曲的702。
